Olivia Wilde (director of Netflix's Bojack Horseman and Tron: Legacy) decided to make a comedy back in 2019 and a lot of people liked it. And after seeing what all the fuss is about. I can agree that this movie is something that really stands out in terms of recent comedy movies. The reason being is that its a new age look at how highschools really are in 2019-2020.
The beauty of this movie is that it isn't strictly comedy, it also plays as a coming of age story and shows the struggles of being a student in a vast schools system who are somewhat social outcasts. The self journeys as well as the bond between friends is explored in a deep yet casual way of story telling, and then you'll find yourself laughing 2 seconds after you were almost in tears. Not to mention this movie is quirky and charming on top of its great formula.
Kaitlyn Dever (Amy) and Beanie Feldstein (Molly) work as a great pair of new actresses who offer an innocent perspective on a warped view of highschool that not a lot of people know. They are relatable characters that try to work in a daunting teen environment, and that's what makes the film work.
I think that this is the type of movie that you defiantly should watch. Its great for every single college/highschooler out there and would make for a great Friday night, night cap.
