Undergrad Rating: 5/10 - good...but not great...

Where to Find: Disney +

Thanks to the ongoing pandemic, Disney had decided to let this movie available on stream because of the pandemic. And like everyone else, hearing a new Pixar movie being readily available was enough to grab my attention. Sadly, this movie in my opinion was just alright.

I was left wanting more from the movie in terms of location. The take on a Dungeons and Dragons universe within a modern suburban setting looks good on paper, but I couldn't help but want more of the fantasy world, and wished that they have dug deeper into the world that what the story actually did. And I was left with what I felt was a movie idea that was revisited after having been pushed aside once or twice

I think that the message of the story was very well told and fleshed out. In the tradition of Pixar, they do a great job of pairing real life, relatable struggles with interesting set pieces. In this instance, they did half of the job, a great message, with a partial set piece.

I also think that the voice actors Chris Pratt (voice of the older brother), and Tom Holland (voice of the younger brother), had some good chemistry within their parts. After having previously introduced and worked on Marvel movies together, they seem to go along really with each other and that helps to get you involved with the characters on screen.

Overall, if you haven't watched this movie already, I would say give it a try. It still structured in the same lovebale style of Pixar/Disney movie that you know and love. Just because it wasn't my cup of tea, doesn't mean it isn't yours!
